About Academy Singers
Academy Singers is a community based, registered not-for-profit organisation. Our aim is to promote and encourage participation of local singers and musicians and to present quality musical performances to local audiences. We perform both sacred and secular music in a wide range of styles, from early music through to gospel and Broadway, and to the best contemporary composers, including works by Australian composers.
Collaborations with Penrith Symphony Orchestra and Penrith Symphony Festival Choir enable us to perform larger scale works at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre. We host annual workshops for all interested singers to join us and sing with the choir for an afternoon. In addition to our regular concerts, we also join in local celebrations, music festivals and community events.
Academy Singers was established in 1996 by distinguished musician and composer Gavin Tipping, then Head of Music at Blue Mountains Grammar School and founder of the Blue Mountains Grammar Music Academy, the inspiration for the choice of our name. Since December 2011, renowned Australian composer, conductor and arranger Paul Terracini has directed the choir.
For information about the range of our repertoire, please visit our 'What's On' page for performances and events this year, and our 'Past Performances' page for a selection of previous concerts and the music performed.
New members are always welcome. Please visit 'Joining the choir' for further information.
