Burt Bacharach (1928 - 2023)

Burt Bacharach, a prolific writer of so many iconic, easy listening pop songs, grew up listening to Thelonius Monk and Charlie Parker, and playing with several jazz groups before studying music in New York. With his writing partner Hal David, Bacharach launched himself into the front rank of pop songwriters with hits for stars like Dionne Warwick, Tom Jones, The Carpenters, Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin. Starting in the 60s with classics such as Walk on By, I Say a Little Prayer and This Guy's in Love With You, these songs all conceal his mastery of different rhythms and metres. His hits often reflect the sheer joy of being in love with The Look of Love and then show the heartbreak when it all goes wrong with I'll Never Fall in Love Again.

Our accompanists, Jane Andino on piano and Ann Palumbo on the double bass bring their own unique take on his melodies.

Afternoon tea will be served after the performance.  All welcome.
